Natural Phenomenan ( Comet )


Hi! Welcome back to my blog ^-^ Today i would like to tell you about one of the natural phenomenon in the world. That is Comet. Comet is a very small solar system body made mostly of ices mixed with smaller amounts of dust and rock. That's why sometimes people called comes as "dirty snowballs" or "icy mudballs". Since comets are the brightest when near the sun, They are usually visible only at sunrise or sunset.

When a comet is heated by the sun, it ices begin to sublimate. The mixture of ice crystals and dust blows away from the comet nucleus in the solar wind, creating a pair of tails. The dust tail is what we normally see when we view comets from Earth.

When they are near the sun and active, comets have several distinct parts :
1. Nucleus that contains mostly ice and gas with a small amount of dust and other solids.
2. Coma that contains dense cloud of water, carbon dioxide and other neutral gases sublimed from the nucleus.
3. Dust tail that composed of smoke-sized dust particles driven off the nucleus by escaping gases.
4. Gas tail that composed of plasma and laced with rays and streamers caused by interactions with the solar wind.

There are 2 types of comet based on shape and length :
1. Long tailed comet is a comet that has a far and fierce cross line and its trajectory through a cold area, allowing the process of absorption of gas in the area it passes. When the comet approaches the sun, the comet will form a coma and the tail which is very long.
2. Short tailed comet is a comet that has fairly short cross lines so that gas absorption in the area it passes is quite low. When the comet approaches the sun, the comet releases a small amount of gas so that it only forms a coma and a short tail.

Comets usually have a wide range of orbital periods, ranging from several years to potentially several million years. Short period comets originate in the kuiper belt and are generally defined as those having orbital periods of less than 200 years. Long period comets originate in the oort cloud and have high periods ranging from 200 years to thousand of years.

One of the most famous comet in history is Comet Halley. It returns to the inner solar system once every 76 years.

The Ugly Duckling                            One upon time, a mother duck sat on her eggs. She felt tired of sitting on them. She just wished the eggs would break out.
